The city’s historic squares and cultural landmarks are within easy reach. Sibiu is one of Transylvania's loveliest old cities, founded by German Saxon settlers in the Middle Ages. Pastel-painted merchant houses with eye-like roof windows ring the cobbled squares, an old council tower and the storied Bridge of Lies span the upper and lower towns, and the snow-capped Fagaraș and Cindrel Carpathians rise grandly to the south. Forest trails and mountain ski resorts lie a short drive from the city.
