The staff was super nice and helpful for the most part. Housekeeping was great and worked around your schedule. The location itself was isolated from the rest of the island and very nice in that manner.
The food at all the restaurants was very sub par. We had multiple times at the restaurants where we had to wait 10 to 15 minutes to be seated when they weren't that busy then we didnt even get served for another 10 to 15 minutes. The resort is definitely more for an early riser than a night owl. Nearly everything would close by 11 and by 1 everything was completely closed. Couldnt even get any alcohol.
ALL of the Staff Members were outstanding, helpful and cheerful. They couldn't have been better Ambassadors for our 9 day stay. The dinners at Bordeaux for French Cuisine were the ONLY meals worth eating. All of the meals were small portioned entrees, with absolutely NO green vegetables included or visible.
The deceptive photos of the hotel were 40 years old. It is severely Outdated. Rooms were in need of a complete refurbishment since NONE of the room's features, furniture or fixtures matched ANY of the deceptively old photos. Our Room -- 1410 -- shown as the corner room on the ground floor swim-up lazy river pool -- was SO freaking loud as it's next to the main walkway NOT shown where all of the outdoor equipment, bar goods, pool towels are taken early every morning. The Room Doors have NO Sound insulation; all of the noise of EVERY person or cart coming by goes straight under your front door. There are NO Soft closing front doors, so EVERY DOOR SLAMS SHUT. The room air conditioning WOULDN'T STAY ON. 3 of 4 days I had to call for service, and it still didn't work. MOSQUITOS & FLYS in the room at night kept us under attack in bed EVERY NIGHT. Unlimited-Luxury is more than just a phrase, and NOTHING LUXURY applied to this property. There simply was NO luxury anything. And NO OCEAN VIEWS from my Swim-up Preferred Suite. THE ONLY rooms to consider a Swim-Up Suites; all other room types are just not worth it.
Was good, won't go again
-Once you tip the staff, service quality is top notch -If you make friends with any of the servers, they will help you get special meals that aren't on any menus -Alcohol quality was good -If you're into all inclusives, this one is about as good as they come
-Any activity you would want to do is riddled with upcharges, it felt a lot like Vegas in that way. -Anything you have to pay for is far more expensive than can be justified. Things like plastic flip-flops made in Mexico are priced in the $500+Mxn range. -You miss out on the authentic Mexican experience staying on the resort, but you waste a disproportionate amount of money by not eating and drinking your fill at the included restaurants.

Secrets Aura Honeymoon
We really enjoyed Secrets. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, we loved Bordeaux & Oceana! Our room was very nice as well. We especially enjoyed the the snorkeling at the beach, laying by the pool in the morning and the beach on the afternoon. We stayed in the Preferred area and would do that again, the pool itself is is worth it! If we go back to Cozumel we will definitely stay at Secrets again.
When checking in (which is supposed to be at 3:00 p.m.) we were told our room was not ready and had to wait until 4:30 p.m. We also were not given a tour of the hotel, which resulted in us not knowing much about our surroundings until the 2nd or 3rd day. There is a family resort that Secrets is associated with next door (Sunscape Sabor) & some nights there were loud children on the shared beach (not especially romantic for Honeymooners).
Great for the price
It is a very nice resort. I loved the all inclusive meals and drinks. It was so nice being able to go out to the pool any time of day or night. It was so relaxing and they had some fun events planned but lots of downtime and quiet too. The room was peaceful, extremely clean and well maintained... and I loved my balcony with the hammock on it. The water slides and swim up bars were fun. Room service all day and all night was nice.
On more than one night, the crowded bar had no DJ until after the kids resort next door was done. They had his equipment out on an empty beach playing music to no one while everyone was upstairs ready for fun... but we had to wait for him to finish playing music for the kids. The songs that eventually were played was pretty boring... Macarena, The Wobble, Cupid Shuffle... its like they had a playlist of favorite group dance songs from long ago on remix and no real good music. It was played at every event, each day, multiple locations. We asked for special requests songs a few times and were denied. The food was unlimited... but no one was ever really happy with the taste or portions. It was either really low quality with too much... or really good and only a couple bites.
When you stay at Secrets Aura Cozumel in Cozumel, you'll be on the beach, within a 15-minute walk of Paradise Beach and Playa Mia Grand Beach and Water Park. Featured amenities include a business center, limo/town car service, and express check-in. Free valet parking is available onsite.
