Location was awesome.
Inside was gloomy and could use updating, AC was noisy. Continental breakfast was packaged pastries. Parking was crowded and difficult.
okay only
Our room was large, shower head new and worked wonderfully, and location is great! Maintenance and housekeeping were great trying to make us happy. They did offer to move us if the heat wasn't ok, but we already had all of our things unpacked, so chose to stay.
2 heaters in the room - 1 did not work at all, and 1 worked on high only 1st night. They did send someone to work on them and gave us a space heater to use - never did work properly. Had to bring a heavy duty extension cord with an extra plug as there are very few outlets. We had to unplug the coffee maker and microwave to plug in chargers and unplug the clock radio to plug in sleep machine. Very outdated bathroom - toilet had to be worked on also. Pastries in morning - packaged and cardboard flavored. So much for free breakfast as advertised. Management was yelling at staff in the lobby in the morning - had to wait for her to stop before I could complain about the heat. Driveway and parking lot and steps very slushy - could have been cleaned out. will not be staying there again.
Not exactly what we expected but it works...
Our room was large with plenty of space for everyone's stuff. The refrigerator and microwave were nice to have. We didn't use the game room or sitting area downstairs but they were nice looking. Coffee and pastries in the morning were good too. Location was good for walking downtown. There were two HVAC units in the wall, so the room warmed up quickly.
There should be small table and chairs in a room this big. The pool and pool area were chilly with a strange layout. There was a headband that didn't belong to us under the nightstand. Also there was a strange looking stain or spot on the rug under the first bed by the door. One pillow was so lumpy. The bath area is lacking space overall... The tub and toilet room are so small you can hardly sit down and close the door. There is also no storage beyond the sink top. I had read that things were dated and I definitely agree, the rugs have seems showing their age. There's not a lot of value expressed though the bed covering or floor covering. I think I expected a little nicer for the money that we paid but I think we really paid for location not amenities.
Bolt lock on door didn't work, which was unnerving. It had clearly been not working for awhile, based on damage done to door jamb from trying to shut the door all the way.
When "adequate" is perfect
I go to lake placid to hike and for the restaurants. So a bed need be no more than a bed. In this respect, Thd Summit is perfect. Great location, very affordable, perfectly adequate. I will stay there over and over again.
The 'breakfast' and 'beachfront' are nonexistent.
Highly Disappointed
The staff was friendly. When we asked to cancel they asked why but did not give us a hard time. They did apologize for the inconvenience.
When we went to check in the room was not ready (which was okay since we were an hour early). We asked if we could use the pool while we waited and they said yes. When we got to the pool area we found out all the pictures lied. The hot tub was gone and the room for the pool was cold. When we felt the pool water it was like ice. Not only was the water like ice it appeared to be cloudy and dirty. At this point my 3 yeare old was in tears because he expected to go swimming and we said he could not get in. We then went back to the office and asked to cancel our reservation. We went to another hotel in town and stayed there.
Not good, but not bad. Just OK.
The location was nice. Easily accessible to everything in town. The staff was decent - not overly friendly, but helpful when we needed it. Free Wi-Fi.
Everything in the hotel was very dated. If the elevator had stopped working while we were in it, I wouldn't have been surprised. You could tell the carpet and paint hadn't been updated in a long time, however they say online they are in the process of renovating. We asked for extra pillows one night and they brought us pillows, but no pillowcases. We had to ask to get those too. The shower would go from hot to cold to hot to cold several times for no apparent reason. The breakfast consisted of poptarts and honey buns. This could have definitely been improved, although I don't think they advertise having a breakfast at all, so this was still better than nothing.
Rooms were dirty, beds/pillows were awful
Lake Placid
Location, restaurants, comfortable beds, clean sheets, friendly staff.
Room seemed a bit old and beat-up.
Eehh...
The queen room was a bit on the small side. The microwave and coffemaker (and small fridge below) consumed much of the desk, making it otherwise unusable. The hotel only provides some pre-packaged pastries and coffee, rather than a real continental breakfast (which is more expected now from even inexpensive chain hotels, much less a "resort" hotel). Rooms and furnishings were dated and worn. The hotel lounge was uncomfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hot water temperature was abnormally hot - scalding actually. Surprised if this even meets building code. The hotel is very convenient to the downtown commercial strip. I've got a number of itchy bites - did not see evidence of bedbugs - could have been the tiny black flies atop Cascade Mountain (just not sure...)
Disappointing
My wife was gathering her clothes and found someone else's dirty underwear and shirt under the bed. She was also bitten numerous times by something during the night.
Great hotel in downtown Lake Placid
The hotel is very nice, clean, quiet in a great location within walking distance of the shops in Lake Placid.
The decor is a little dated, as are the rooms.
swimming hot tub
Location, Rate and cordial attendants
Room not clean and we han to ask for towels and toilet paper. Room not cleaned or serviced the 2nd day. Never had this problem before and we have stayed at the Summit at least two visits a year.
The Summit Hotel was much nicer then I expected. The reviews were pretty bad, but it was a great location and the rooms were very big. There were a few things I didn't like, the jacuzzi didn't work and there was mold in the shower, but all and all we had a great time. I would go back again.
Moldy shower, jacuzzi didn't work, scribbles on walls.
The location is wonderful as it's conviently located, the staff was very nice and helpful and the price was very affordable as I booked it off line and got a great rate.
Everything seemed old, the phone in my room only half worked as people could hear me but we couldn't hear them. The refrigerators in both our room and that of another person in our party froze everything and the bathrooms are extremely small.
It was convenient
Hotel is run down. Beds are old. It needs a sprucing up. Upon checking in we found our rooms both toilets to be soiled with fecal matter. To the staff's credit once I informed them they cleaned them immediately. Free continental breakfast was very basic. Restaurant that was advertised was closed. No bar available
