I like that you could also enjoy the town around the hotel. Which was a small walk away.
The price was great, the rooms were clean, and it is conveniently located near the train depot to get to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
The staff could have been a little more warm and friendly.
Great Railway Experience, friendly staff, hotel wa
Railroad was a great experience! It was a fun way to spend the day, meet people and see the Grand Canyon!
Housekeeper knocked at 8 and woke us up on a day we were not checking out and planned to sleep in. Had to call numerous times to get handicapped room guaranteed before arrival. Pool looked very dated and unappealing, even to my 8 year old. The buffet at the cafe was way overpriced and travelling with a friend in a walker-we had no other options. No room service. Room not cleaned at all on second day.
The Polar Express Experience Spencers Cafe - excellent cuisine with impeccable service & great atmosphere
Location in center of town for shopping, quiet & clean.
The buffet was overly priced for a family
convenient to grand canyon
We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, the food and service in Spencer's Pub, and the very clean bathroom. The location was also pleasant and interesting.
We did not enjoy the very murky water in the pool and the lack of any hotel staff or security staff in this area. While we were swimming,a teen kept one of the outside doors open while smoking, blowing smoke directly into the nonsmoking pool area while chatting with his group. This area needs to be monitored. Additionally, the floor in the towel room was dangerously slick with water and several people, including myself, narrowly missed taking a fall there. The lack of internet availability in the rooms was also a problem, though I was well aware of it in advance because I read other people's reviews as well as the hotel description.
It was a clean hotel but very busy
We liked the concept of the hotel. We arrived in off-season, so it was quiet. Located near some useful amenities, like a Safeway. We joked while walking down a hallway to our room that the hotel very much reminded us of the hotel in The Shining (may have been the off-season quiet and the remote location that added to that feeling).
Wasn't a big fan of the very limited menu in the lounge. Poor TV reception and no flat sceen tv's (it's 2010??). I wish we had better planned the timing of our trip to take advantage of the railroad and train that takes visitors to The Grand Canyon. Disappointed we couldn't do that.
I loved the location and the look of the hotel. The staff was very helpful. The room was clean and the bathroom was very large and very comfortable.
As for the hotel, it was great. But the food in the buffet was not good at all. The foor was bland, and not very much of it. We left more food on the plates than we ate. Hated to waste the food but it was that bad. We ordered foor from Spencers which is the hotel bar and grill, and the foor agai had little taste, and a pasta diner was placed in a cardboard box with no liner between the food and the box. Tacky for sure and took away from the taste of the pasta.
Great atmosphere, Grand Canyon experience.
