Loved the hotel would go...
We are Londoners but we're surprised how good the Victoria area has been done up. Location great and the hotel has a real charm about it.
Really enjoyed our stay. Our advice is don't make to many changes. We have stayed in many first class hotels throughout the world but rubens has that old world charm that is not easy to achieve.
Outstanding
Loved everything down to staff, hotel food drinks the lot
Nothing
Amazing two night break. Already...
The hotel is in a great location. Staff very friendly, made you feel as if you were the only guest. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice. The room was lovely. Considering we were in London, it was so peaceful. Could not have wished for a nicer place to stay.
Everything was perfect. There was nothing we didn’t like.
Superb
The service was exceptional from start to finish and definitely 5*. Breakast was briliant with a wide choice of food available to order. Thoughtful complimentary products left in room which was really kind. Location is perfect for a quiet stay in London but without compromising accessibility to get anywhere.
The rooms are elegant but slightly tired.
Very good
Excellent location and very friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast.
No bath.
Home away from home
Had a lovely stay at the Rubens. Arrived early after an overnight flight and a very comfortable room with crisp bedsheets was available despite my early arrival. Staff was very friendly and helpful and always gave me a warm welcome and friendly words after my shopping trips. As a solo traveller that made me feel ‘not solo’ at all. Lovely place if you don’t want to stay in a big hotel, this one has personality and not least a great location with walking distance to most attractions and shopping areas. Will definitely come back here for my future London stays.
Exceptional
Beautiful hotel with good old fashioned customer care of the highest standards from the moment you pull up out side to the moment that you leave Highly recommended
Regal furnishings Outstanding service Beautiful rooms Personal service
Great location & lovely staff.
Great location and very welcoming staff.
Hotel was quiet but no fault of their own.
A real treat and can't...
We loved the way we were treated, a beautiful hotel and wonderful staff.
Our stay was very relaxing...
Attention to detail. Quality of food.
One waiter for one breakfast. He appeared to be very nervous and as a result we got a slightly incorrect breakfast.
I will definitely recommend
Friend ly staff, liked the snacks very filling and the breakfast was great

We were upgraded to Hotel 41 as the main hotel was closed and the service was exceptional
An amazing hotel and experience....
We were upgraded to their boutique hotel 41. The hotel is amazing, the service from all of the staff was impeccable. i cannot fault this hotel. Everything from location, food, service, rooms were all amazing. We will be back.
Relaxing
Dean, David, Lauren and Gabriel were lovely. The fact I remember all there names says something. I would love to stay again soon.
Absolutely nothing
The reception staffs
No bathtub in a junior suite! Shower blocked , water running very slowly, NO cotton pads, no body lotion!!

location was great
the room was tiny & the shower had to movable headshower
I would have liked it very much but the fact that you have sent me a questionnaire when we spent the last week cancelling the trip goes to show how attentive your system is!!
We didn't get there
Decor. Friendliness.

Hospitality was fantastic! Staff could not have been more accommodating!
The service from staff was excellent, very friendly and small little touches to enhance your stay. Breakfast was amazing, in a beautiful room. The location is perfect for exploring central London, so near Buckingham Palace.
The room although beautifully decorated was quite small, although the bathroom was large.
An extremely hard bed which was not at all comfortable. The hotel fittings and general look is very tired and dated.
Breakfast was out of this world, nothing to much trouble for them. Best nights sleep in a bed so comfy. The staff make the hotel
The staff were amazing and went way beyond the call of duty to look after us and treat us for my birthday!
The tap in the bathroom sink....
Old fashioned charm and elegance with fabulous guest service
Nothing
Well located near Victoria Excellent staff and service Lovely complimentary breakfast Also given a voucher for complimentary drink on arrival
Room smallish for a double but adequate
Excellent service. Really friendly staff who upgraded us just because I mentioned it was my partners first visit to London
There was nothing to not like
We had a lovely warm welcome when we checked in. Bed was very comfortable.
The walls in our room were a bit thin and we could hear next door too clearly! Breakfast was a long time coming but worth the wait.
Location , staff friendly , bar and restaurant all excellent
Bedroom slightly small
Friendly and helpful staffs, comfy bed, very good breakfast
The bed was very comfortable and the reception staff were very nice. The location is excellent, only 5 minute walk from Buckingham Palace and Victoria tube station. Coffee in the lobby in the morning was a nice touch and management checked on us a number of times after we checked in.
Some of the staff weren't overly friendly. No specific issues but certainly not as friendly as I would expect in a 5 star. Arrived early and was told we could check in to an upgraded room for an extra cost; it would have been a very nice touch to offer a complimentary upgrade as the room clearly wasn't booked.
breakfast was excellent. The staff were very polite and courteous
the view from from the roof was non as there was a wall of next door property
Room was small and the bed small also the bathroom
Proximity to all the places we needed to be. Very comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful.
Only one lift. Shower control was difficult - very hot.
The staff were incredibly attentive, nothing was too much trouble, the room was lovely and the bed exceptionally comfortable.
I did feel that there was a little bit of a hard sell for upgrades and extras but perhaps this was to ensure that I was aware of all options.
Staff were exceptional Bathroom well equipped, robes & slippers
Very small room and small bed Oppressive decoration of whole hotel Food smells were absorbed into heavy fabrics and lingered throughout hotel Corridors and walls covered in padded fabrics Henry VIII and 6 wives staring at us all night. Carpet draped over top of bed
Very Beautiful
All people are very lovely
Fantastic classical style hotel with excellent service from the exceptional staff in all areas Special thanks to Paula
Location, friendly and helpful stuff, excellent breakfast
Incredible staff
Breakfast was included and we had one evening meal - all were excellent.
We would have liked a bath as well as the walk in shower.
Absolutely fantastic in every way made our January much more bearable. We loved it and we will be going back, the room, the food and the staff were exceptional!
Both the location and breakfast could not have been better. You are 10 steps across from the side walls of Buckingham Palace facing the side gates, and so for that excellent. The breakfast was truly outstanding and lots of variety, even the coffee was very good. The staff was super, polite, friendly and professional. I also liked that it was a mid size hotel and so everyone knew you, we were there for 4 nights.
The rooms, while dated and with character, which I was fine with, were showing their wear. The headboard in our room had material frayed all on the side. It was not dusted properly and smelled stale. The bathroom shower glass door, no matter how you adjusted it, leaked water on the side, and the drain in the tub was plugged, and so every time we took a shower we ended up being more than ankle deep in water. We mentioned it twice to the hotel staff, but still not fixed. There also should be a few more shelves in the bathroom to place the toiletry.
The location is convenient. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The cleaner can clean the bath tub at least two days one time. I found dirt inside.
From the moment I arrive the staff went out of their way to be friendly helpful and accommodating.
Location, staff
nothing
Exceptional breakfast
Rooms are very small. Lack of comfort.
Great staff and awesome breakfast!
The service provided was exceptional.
From the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were returning old friends. All staff were aware that our visit was a special occasion and extra little touches had been put place which enhanced our experience. These continued throughout the duration of our visit.
A fantastic hotel, extremely attentive staff, a lovely welcome, great facilities, the rooms were fabulous with so many lots of little touches including a bed turn down service, I would highly recommend the wonderful breakfast. The location is great, very close to Buckingham palace & Victoria station, we will definitely come back,
Nothing, all wonderful
The staff were all particularly pleasant and welcoming. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
We found the room a bit stuffy at night (424) and I was unable to get the window open to get some air.
Excellent location, staff is fabulous
Not enough fresh air
Wifi too slow
The staff: superb helpful and friendly The classic double room: very spacious and the bed is very comfortable, also the walk in shower is handy (and has bathrobes in the bathroom) The breakfast: people bring you your breakfast which is very delicious and also has wide range to choose from.
Classic double room: the bed is made of 2 singles because there is a crease in the middle and it might be annoying to some
Stayed in the queen suite - beautiful room, staff were wonderful and the food was fantastic. Only 2mins from Victoria station and 5mins from Buckingham palace.
Comfy bed, great staff on reception, beautiful classic interiors, great location
Breakfast was a massive disappointment stewed coffee weak and bland an extra £3 charge for a hot option and the continental was ok at best. As for the coffee interesting that I received a perfect one after paying £6 for it
Staff is friendly and helpful
Bathrooms lacks toiletry kit WiFi is very weak Breakfast buffet could be with more variety
Both good
Pleased to see a deaf person employed among housekeeping staff. A very good location for what we were doing. Good noise reduction given that we were on a main road. Staff welcoming. Beds sizeable and comfortable.
Showers almost impossible to use - scalding hot and cold at the same time. This was too late to complain about as we had to out of the hotel promptly. Rather tired interior, not helped by bath being badly chipped. The kind of thing that should be fixed straight away.
Excellent location, staff was helpful. Very clean. All amenities provided.
Wonderful staff. Nice room with a comfortable bed. Good breakfast.
I would have liked a minibar in the room.
Beautiful decor, makes you feel like you are actually in Buckingham Palace
The front of house staff were excellent. The location is great, easy access to tube (Victoria) and a range of places to visit.
Service in Bar area and and Breakfast very poor. Room not as clean as would have expected in a Hotel of this rating
Nice and posh
Luxury hotel, conveniently located
I asked for a quiet room but found it noisy. No kettle in the room. Expected more
Sorroundings, room and facilities in general was amazing and the staff were outstanding. Can only recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to experience the “royal” feeling.
It’s just cosy and perfect for a winter stay
Food selection in bar too small
Breakfast selection and quality is excellent. All fresh and cooked to your liking. Lovely surroundings in breakfast room.
Old fashioned great customer service and historic building make for another relaxing and comfortable stay
Fantastic position, very helpful staff and the restaurant English Grill is excellent
The room we had was on the very small size for a classic double, more like a cosy double, but it had everything and was comfortable
The staff are the best part of the deal ... every person (from the doorman to the room attendant) was pleasant and made concerted efforts to assist, even outside their role. The location was outstanding.
The room is smaller than anticipated but understandable all things considered. The doors were a bit noisy, especially when guests did not control them.
Comfortable and cozy
Needed some further low lighting in our bedroom eg lamp in corner
Location, service and comfort rate very high on my list and we had a marvellous experience.
nothing
The staff were all outstanding in their friendliness.
Could have done with black out blinds as curtains let in light. But we really enjoyed our stay.
whole experience, english grill is top class, londons most welcoming staff, all appear to enjoy also, lovely people
nothing
The hotel staffs were extremely friendly. There was some issues with the air-conditioning of my room. However, the staffs promptly reacted and managed to resolve the situation. The location of the hotel was very convenient.
Very comfortable room and friendly helpful staff.
The staff were all exceptionally helpful, welcoming, and friendly - from arriving at the front door throughout the whole stay. There was definitely a sense of "team" and everyone had a strong customer-focus. Food (we had breakfast) was excellent and again service was attentive and prompt. Loved the decoration - opulent and warm giving a boutique feel. We couldn't have asked for a better location - so close to all the tourist attractions we wanted to visit and close to tube & rail - Victoria station 2 mins walk away.
There was nothing we didn't like. Having read other reviews about rooms being small, we booked a King room which I'm glad we did because anything smaller would have been too small for us. As it was the room size was adequate. London is an expensive city so the price has to be seen in that context.
Rubens is a quintessential British experience, quirky and traditional with refined touches combined with good old fashioned service. It’s location at the Palace gave us the complete royal experience, very different from our previous visits to London. Christmas was alive from the moment we entered the lobby. Staff are fully attentive from the doorman to concierge, greeting staff (champagne on arrival) and front desk. Loved the musical entertainment in the grill and the gallery. Our suite was well appointed and spacious by London standards. Quality linens, gold monogrammed fluffy towels, striped yellow wallpaper and heavy drapes characterise the regal theme. A large portrait of the queen mother hangs on the wall facing the bed. Breakfast was a good selection, tables set formally with silver service and white cloths. We enjoyed the window view of hot breakfast underway in the grill kitchen.
Only things we could negatively comment on are that the property is gloomy (natural light is limited) and there was a weird smell in our bathroom.
Very clean and very near to Tube and Main Line station.
Location,clean
For the price expected better shower in bathroom. Curry in the restaurant and snack in bar expensive. But the food was fine.
How close to landmarks
Bar service, as it was so slow(Monday night) in the end went to the bar and ordered. Not what I expected as there were only 8 people in the bar
Great location and the staff are very friendly
It looks a little tired and potentially in the need of refreshing some of the wallpaper in the rooms
All members of the staff were exceptional. A special thanks to Istvan who provided great service at breakfast. Breakfast was of high quality.
The room was small and had almost no natural light at all. It was not up to the standards of a five star hotel room.
Dining was excellent
Booked a twin room & ended up with a king split into two narrow singles. Complained & was told that IS how they define a twin. In fairness, they did give us a slightly larger room for next nights. Would’ve expected a ‘proper’ twin bedded room for money spent
We stayed here on our wedding night, as did both our parents and some of our families. The hotel staff were all lovely, and went out of their way to make the day special, with little touches which they didn’t have to do. The hotel is beautiful and definitely gave a sense of occasion for our families, especially with the Christmas decorations. There was a great selection for breakfast, which kept everyone happy. We booked a table at the bar the night before the wedding, and again the service was flawless. We also enjoyed the live music at the bar. The location was perfect, and made it easy for everyone to get around London. We were both very glad we chose the Rubens and grateful to all the staff who made the day perfect. This will always be a special place for us, and we’ll definitely be back!
Always welcomed by friendly door persons. Reception staff quickly checked us in. Also answered questions and gave good advice.
great hotel attentive staff stayed there many times location good but now 5 stars too expensive
for a single traveller the room for £274 was like a box dark at the back of the hotel depressing colours on the wall art work no colour either I asked to be moved will not stay again breakfast took 35 mins !
Location and old world charm.
Fantastic location, walking distance to Buckingham Palace, Carnaby Street & Victoria Station. Breakfast at the hotel is so good & an experience. Will tell friends & family about this hotel - highly recommended!!
Room was a bit small.
Location was excellent for us, the bed was a very small, but the quilt was excellent and the service from all the staff was superb, breakfast was excellent with a massive range of everything you can think of, free drinks voucher for both of us to use in the bar on certain drinks was a nice touch
Breakfast was good. Downstairs was nice.
The rooms were old and not well maintained. The shower flooded the bathroom. Rooms were small.
Excessive prices and unfriendly bar staff
Great location
£18 for a vodka and coke and £9 per pint. What’s more all bills have a 12.5% discretionary service charge which isn’t brought to your attention. Bar staff also have poor English and are unhelpful and rude.
The staff were friendly and very helpful.
old charm
The hotel was older than expected. The shower had issues delivering water at the correct temperature. Maintenance had to be called to resolve. The staff was very helpful in every request. The quality of food at the bar could be improved.
