The owners are very nice and very helpful. It was a refreshing change from some of the other places we stayed in Beijing! The accommodation was also more traditional (less resort-ish) than other accommodation in the city. They owners have made up a nice little booklet outlining bus numbers, good places to eat, location of ATMs etc, so this makes it easy to get around. I would highly recommend staying here.
Templeside is a little hard to find (down a small alley), but these are safe and upon booking we recieved a good little map and taxi note to help get us there.
Small, clean, in old hutong street near subway and bus lines; able to get all over city quickly from here.
beds are hard (welcome to China)
Staff were very friendly and helpful and english speaking, hotel was charming in hutong and room was clean
Well located, Good value, genuine Chinese experience, friendly community, plenty of advice about what to see and how to get around.
Having dinners delivered at a reasonable price was convenient.
Having aircon or fan in courtyard would make the experience so much better.
There was always cold bottled water and drinks available (for a price). Our host arranged pickups and dropoffs at the airport for us. He also had good advice for shopping and transportation around the city and recommended a very good restaurant close to the hutong where we stayed. The a/c worked well and Internet was pretty good though sometimes we ended up "sharing" info with the neighboring room. One night was dumpling night where all the guests were invited to make and eat our own dumplings. The 3-person room where one of our families stayed was nicely decorated with a private bathroom. We were able to have our laundry done there at the hutong, line dried.
The 4-5-person bedroom where the other family in our group stayed was less desirable. It was not decorated at all and the "private" sitting room was not private but out in the open for anyone to use. Also, we were promised a private bathroom for that room, and though we were given a key to keep it locked, at least on one occasion it was apparent that someone else had used it. Also, the bathroom had mold, no towel racks, and no counter space for toiletries. We had to ask for clean towels on one occasion, also had to ask for toilet paper repeatedly, and the soap dispenser in the shower ran out. We bought our own bar soap for the sink and ended up using it. The shower had a low lip, so there was always water on the floor of the bathroom.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service
We liked the interior, atmosphere, and peacefulness inside the hotel. The neighborhood (a traditional hutong) was quite interesting too!
We found all the staff to be both friendly and helpful. The information book compiled by Bobby was very helpful in regard to choosing a local restaurant and booking a trip to the Great Wall. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to stay in a hutong and the hotel was both comfortable & quiet.
The style of the place and it's position within a traditional neighbourhood, helpful people.
Not a reflection on the accomodation, but your booking site calculated the total cost of the stay to be lower than it actually was - your site needs to be more accurate in this.
